By choosing a good password (and not sharing it with anyone else) you can make more difficult for someone trying to crack it.
There are several ways hackers can crack passwords. There are software programs which attempt to guess passwords based on words in the dictionary.
Most people create passwords using there name ,birthday , last four digits of your social security number , address or phone number . All usually based on personal information something easy for them to remember.
- Your passwords should be 8 or more characters in length; 14 characters or longer is ideal.
- Combine letters, numbers, and symbols. The greater variety of characters that you have in your password, the harder it is to guess. Example: Z13nf8Lg6W
- Use a sentence you can remember. Iliketousemycomputertowork . Use the first letter out of each word in the sentence and change a word to a number like (to-2). Also use upper and lower cases. Now you password would look like this Il2uMc2w
- AVOID USING WORDS FROM THE DICTIONARY
- AVOID USING NAMES, BIRTHDAYS, SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER OR SIMILAR INFORMATION
- AVOID USING THE SAME PASSWORD EVERYWHERE.
- IF YOU WRITE YOUR PASSWORD DOWN PUT IT IN A SAFE PLACE , NOT POSTED NOTE ON YOUR DESK OR COMPUTER AND NOT SITTING AROUND ON YOUR DESK.
- DON'T TELL ANYONE YOUR PASSWORD.
There is no guarantee that this will protect you from someone learning your password, but it should make it more difficult.
